WDET to hold garage sale and street party on Saturday July 31 from 10AM to 4PM

Fundraising event to offer WDET merchandise, music, food and fun

Detroit, Mich. - July 16, 2004 - WDET 101.9FM Detroit Public Radio is having its first-ever Garage Sale and Street Party and is bringing a wide array of vintage pledge drive premiums to the street on Saturday, July 31 from 10am to 4pm. The event takes place on W. Canfield Avenue between Woodward and Cass in the Wayne State University and Detroit's Cultural Center area. Among the offerings will be WDET mugs, shirts, hats and bags in addition to books, CD's, autographed photos of WDET personalities and lots more.

WDET has also lined up some local music artists to provide entertainment throughout the afternoon. Performing at the Agave Restaurant Stage, located in the parking lot of Agave (Woodward and Canfield) will be swinging folk artist and National Public Radio (NPR) favorite the Jo Serrapere Band as well as Detroit's masters of funk Soul Clique. Food and beverages will also be available at Agave during the event.

A number of WDET underwriters and cultural partners will also be on hand providing information about their products and programs, including Wayne State University, Whole Foods, Lotus Imports of Royal Oak, Michigan Opera Theatre, Karmanos Cancer Institute, Detroit Public Library, Town Pump, Detroit Music Retailers Collective, Wayne State University Press, University of Michigan-Dearborn and Arts, Beats & Eats.

"This is a fun event that's open to all of our listeners," said Caryn Mathes, WDET General Manager. "It provides a way to raise some money and is an opportunity for everyone who supports Detroit Public Radio to celebrate the station together."

The admission for non-WDET members is $2.00. Those who are current members of Detroit Public Radio can show their WDET MemberCard at the entrance and get in free. Street and surface parking is available throughout the neighborhood including various Wayne State University parking lots.
