Corporate Leadership Awards Honor Business Leaders

Four outstanding leaders in business who have made significant contributions to their companies and communities will receive Wayne State University Corporate Leadership Awards Wednesday, June 16, at the Hilberry Theatre. Corporate Leadership Awards honor the accomplishments of Wayne State University graduates and others who hold executive-level positions and are recognized as business and community leaders. Wayne State University has been celebrating the accomplishments of outstanding business leaders for 21 years.

Terry A. Reiley, of Farmington, Mich., President of the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan and the Michigan Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital, and Senior Vice President of the Detroit Medical Center, will receive the 21st Century Award. This award is presented to an alumna/us who has shown personal and professional leadership in one of these areas - global leadership, technological innovation, urban involvement or a commitment to diversity. Reiley received a master's degree in business from Wayne State University in 1990.She was named one of "Detroit's 100 Most Influential Women" by Crain's Detroit Business in 2002. Under her leadership, the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan was named one of "America's Best Hospitals" for the last four years (U.S. News and World Report, July 2003). It was also the highest ranked rehabilitation hospital in the country for care in rheumatology to appear in the rankings this year. After assuming the presidency of the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, Reiley planned a major renovation of the facility, totaling $35 million. The hospital is now more than two years into the overhaul.

Other awardees include Ed Christian, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saga Communications, Inc., who will receive the Distinguished Corporate Leader Award; the Delphi Corporation, who will receive the Corporate Citizenship Award; and writer, producer and director Monice Mitchell Simms, of Flower Girl Productions, Inc., who will receive the Emerging Corporate Leader Award.

A community reception begins at 5 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m. Tickets for the reception and ceremony are $20.
