Jeff Trzeciak, director of Library Computing and Media Services, was named by Library Journal, as one of 2004's "Movers and Shakers," an award that recognizes librarians across the country for their innovation and commitment to providing the best possible service to their users. Trzeciak was one of 55 men and women across the United State to achieve this honor.

Trzeciak partnered with the Walter P. Reuther Library to develop the Virtual Motor City project, an online collection of over 15,000 photos from the Detroit News collection. Funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the collection chronicles Detroit's history, prominent figures, art and architecture. His latest initiative, also backed by the IMLS, is "Digital Dress," a Web accessible database of historic clothing.

"Jeff Trzeciak's dedication to digital library services and the integration of technology and library computing is exceptional," said Sandra Yee, dean of the Wayne State University Library System. "His dedication to library services is outstanding and represents exactly the type of professional this award intends to honor."

Library Journal chooses the award winners based on their commitments to their communities as well as their ability to recognize librarianship as a profession where one can make a difference. "Whether they are in public, academic, school, corporate or non-library institutions, the people nominated by their colleagues and selected as this year's "'Movers and Shakers' are changing their environments and empowering users," said Francine Fialkoff, editor of the Library Journal. "In the process they are shaping the future of libraries."
