DETROIT - March 20, 2004 - Detroit Public Radio is proud to announce that the Michigan Associated Press has recognized WDET with seven awards in five categories. WDET won the Best and Honorable Mention awards for "Newscast"; the Best and Honorable Mention awards for "Spot News"; the Best award for "News Documentary"; and the Honorable Mention award for "Sports Feature." WDET News was also awarded the General Excellence award for the THIRD year in a row.
WDET offers award-winning local news to listeners seven days a week. Newscasts can be heard Monday through Friday from 5am-9am (Morning Edition) and from 4pm-7pm (All Things Considered). WDET recently expanded its local newscasts to weekend mornings and can be heard on Saturday and Sunday from 8am-10am (Weekend Edition). "These awards affirm our commitment to serving the community," says Caryn Mathes, WDET general manager. "I'm so proud of the work our news department does day in and day out."
The WDET News Department continues to be recognized by organizations for its outstanding achievements in broadcast journalism. "
Receiving the General Excellence award for the third straight year is a testament to the hard work of the entire news staff," says Joan Silvi, WDET news director. "Our goal remains: excellence in local news coverage."
