Conjoined twins neurosurgeon returns home to talk at Wayne State University

Detroit, Mich. - Ben Carson's gifted hands boldly go where few have gone before. Carson, doctor of pediatric neurosurgery at John Hopkins Medical Institution, participated in the recent separation of the conjoined Iranian twins in March 2003. A native Detroiter, Carson will share his experiences firsthand at 6 p.m. March 3 in the Wayne State University Community Arts Auditorium.

His talk is titled, "Gifted Hands - An Evening with Dr. Benjamin Carson." A book signing and reception will follow.

Carson, professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics, is author of three books: "Gifted Hands," "Think Big" and "The Big Picture."

The Greater Detroit Area of Black Social Workers, Student Chapter of Wayne State University School of Social Work, is event sponsor.

Free tickets may be picked up at the WSU Dean of Students Office (room 351 in the Student Center) or at the School of Social Work Office of Admissions and Student Services (4756 Cass Ave.).

For TV media and photography requests to tape or photograph a portion of the lecture on March 3, contact Pechta by 5 p.m. Feb. 23.
