The Upward Bound Program at Wayne State University will be presented with a check for $10,000 for college scholarships to graduating high school students participating in the Upward Bound Program. The check will be presented by Nancy Martin, a Pepsi/Frito Lay representative on, Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, 4:30 p.m., Upward Bound office, 5425 Woodward Avenue, Suite 200.
The Upward Bound Program prepares high school students to pursue a college education by providing students in grades 9-12 with pre-college instruction and tutoring, academic and career counseling, personal counseling, college visits, as well as a 6-week summer residential program. Upward Bound serves 130 students from 31 Detroit and Inkster Public High Schools.
Upward Bound is one of seven programs administered by Wayne State University's Academic College Enrichment Services (ACCESS). The ACCESS department's seven programs promote educational opportunity and academic development for 6,000 disadvantaged youth and adults who have the skills and motivation to be successful in higher education.
