Sutton Foster, winner of the 2002 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, will be on campus on Monday November 10 to host a talk back to students in the Department of Theatre. Originally a Detroit area native, Sutton Foster is the recipient of the 2002 Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Astaire Award for her performance as Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie, currently playing on Broadway. This production of Thoroughly Modern Millie garnered many awards including Best Costumes by Hilberry Theatre alumnus, Martin Pakledinaz.
A very accomplished actress, Miss Foster has received critical acclaim for other roles including Broadway: Les Miserables (Eponine), Annie (Star to Be), The Scarlet Pimpernel, Grease! (Sandy). What the World Needs Now (Old Globe), Dorian (Goodspeed), The Three Musketeers (San Jose Musical Theatre), Nellie Forbush in South Pacific (Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera), Tours: The Will Rogers Follies. Television: NBC's "Today Show," CBS's "The Early Show," "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," "Live with Regis and Kelly," "The View," "The Caroline Rhea Show," "The Isaac Mizrahi Show," 2002 Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon," "2002 Christmas at Rockefeller Center," "2002 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade," TLC's A Makeover Story. In 2002 and 2003, she appeared as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl in Concert and as Svetlana Sergievsky in Chess in Concert, both for the Actors Equity Fund of America. She can also be heard on the newly released The Maury Yeston Songbook (PS Classics).
She will be in Detroit to receive the Michigan Governor's Award for Arts and Culture for best New Artist on November 10, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. at the Max. M Fisher Music Center, and has made time in her schedule to meet with theatre students.
