Wayne State's Mortuary Science Building is opening its door to those curious about pursuing careers ranging from funeral director and anatomic pathologists' assistants to forensic investigator.
While popular television shows like "CSI," "Law and Order" or "Six Feet Under," give Hollywood's version of those careers, the open house will show students the real thing.
Prospective students and their families are invited to attend the mortuary science open house on Thursday, Oct. 23rd from 6 to 9 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The mortuary science building is located on Wayne State's main campus at 5439 Woodward Avenue in Detroit. Free parking is available for the event in Wayne State Lot "33" on Woodward (west side) between Palmer and Ferry.
The public will be able to tour the mortuary science building and meet the faculty, as well as view our newly erected Donor Wall.
Those interested in funeral service can view a video on embalming; those who might want to become pathologists' assistants can view an autopsy video at the open house.
The Disaster Truck from the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), will be on hand next door to the mortuary science building for public tours. Mortuary science alumni will be on hand to discuss their careers with prospective students.
Wayne State's mortuary science program, one of the nation's first, was started in 1939. The main programs are funeral service, anatomic pathologists' assistants and post-bachelor in forensic investigation. It is part of the department of fundamental and applied sciences in the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
