The Dearborn Country Club was created in 1923 when Henry Ford instructed his general secretary to "lay out a good, practical golf club that any and everybody could use." Nationally known architect and golf course planner Donald Ross, who also built the Detroit Golf Club, designed the 160-acre course, which opened for play in April 1925. Famed architect Albert Kahn designed the clubhouse, built with hand-hewn beams in the dining room and ballroom, with walls of stone and brick and a slate roof.
