September 24, 2003 - Wayne State University College of Nursing will honor State Rep. Sandy Caul, R-Mount Pleasant, at a luncheon reception on Friday, October 3 on its Detroit campus.
Caul will receive the Dean's Award for Distinguished Public Service in recognition of her work as a legislator and a nurse.
"We are honored to recognize a fellow nurse for her contributions on behalf of the people from the State of Michigan," says Barbara K. Redman, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean of the College of Nursing.
Caul was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1998. She serves on the House Appropriations Committee, where she serves as chair of the higher education subcommittee and the state police and military affairs subcommittee. She is also a member of the community health and capital outlay subcommittees.
Her nursing career includes 15 years as a nursing supervisor at Central Michigan Community Hospital. In 1980, she joined Petra Management at its Pleasant Manor Nursing Home. She was promoted to director of nurses, nursing home administrator and eventually vice president for operations of Petra Management. In 1992, she became the owner and president of Rehab Care Plus Inc.
