Wayne State University Academy of Scholars elects new members

Charles J. Stivale, president of the Wayne State University Academy of Scholars, has announced the induction of four new members to the Academy of Scholars. The induction ceremony will take place at the annual academy induction banquet on October 8, 2003.

The new academy members are:

Rafail Khasminskii, professor, Department of Mathematics College of Science, resident of Farmington Hills

Robert Sokol, distinguished professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine, resident of West Bloomfield

Serge Vinogradov, professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, School of Medicine, resident of Ann Arbor

George W. Ziegelmueller, distinguished professor and director of forensics, Department of Communication, College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, resident of Royal Oak

Founded in 1979, the Academy of Scholars recognizes outstanding scholarship and creative achievement among faculty members at Wayne State University. Election to the academy is a rigorous process, and is the highest recognition that may be bestowed upon faculty by their colleagues. Appointment to the academy is for life.

In addition to the induction ceremony, upcoming academy activities include a symposium featuring the winner of the Thomas N. Bonner Book Award competition as well as the annual Senior Lecture series. The Academy has also organized a Junior Faculty Recognition Award bestowed on two distinguished younger faculty members of Wayne State University.
