Wayne State Music is presenting a diverse and distinguished line-up of guest artists on their Professional Artists
Concert/Lecture Series. The month of September brings to campus guest speaker Ann Delisi, WDVD-FM Music Director, for a lecture on the music industry (Sept. 19, 11:45 a.m.). In conjunction with the Chamber Music Society of Detroit, the Department is hosting a one-day string master class with the Shanghai Quartet (Sept. 29, 1-2:30 p.m.). October 2003 highlights include a recital by MET bass and 2003 Arts Achievement Award recipient John Macurdy (Oct. 3, 11:45 a.m.), a jazz workshop with internationally recognized saxophonist James Carter (Oct. 14, 1-3 p.m.), and string recital featuring Movses Pogossian, violin and Matthew Ardizzone, guitar (Oct. 17, 11:45 a.m.).
In November WSU Music will present the Mozart Quintet, featuring DSO faculty Ted Oien, Geoffrey Applegate, Joseph Striplin, James Van Valkenburg, and Marcy Chanteaux (Nov. 3, 7 p.m.) and jazz trumpet artist Derrick Gardner with WSU's premier big band (Nov. 4, 7 p.m.). String lovers should not miss the month of December, which will highlight folk guitarist Matt Watroba, host of WDET's "Folks Like Us" (Dec. 5, 11:45 a.m.) and a solo performance by DSO Principal Cellist Robert deMaine (Dec. 8, 7 p.m.).

Wayne State University Department of Music is celebrating 85 years of artistic and academic excellence. The Department's faculty includes renowned jazz artists, composers, scholars, educators and members of the internationally acclaimed Detroit Symphony Orchestra. WSU alumni have gone on to careers in distinguished orchestras, ensembles and as soloists and music educators the world over.
