Wayne State University to award Presidential Scholarships to 14 Math Corps participants

Wayne State is collaborating with the Math Corps to award scholarships to participants of the program that plan to attend the university.

The summer program, in which Detroit Public Schools students participate from middle school through high school, is attempting to build on its legacy by offering the prestigious scholarships to Math Corps students.

The Presidential Scholarship covers tuition and partial room and board expenses in one of Wayne State's residence halls. The scholarship is currently valued at more than $23,000 for four years at Wayne State.

"We are happy to be able to help continue the education of our Math Corps students right here at Wayne State," said Steve Khan, Math Corps director and professor. "We look forward to more Math Corps students being the recipient of scholarships in the future."

The 14 students are all from the Detroit Public Schools system and will receive the scholarships at a special Math Corps awards ceremony on Friday, Aug. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Wayne State's General Lectures Hall.

The Wayne State Math Corps is a six-week long summer camp for Detroit Public Schools students in grades 5th-12th. At the camp, middle school students are tutored by high school students, who in turn, are mentored by college students.

Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges to more than 31,000 students in metropolitan Detroit.
