The department of German and Slavic Studies announced the recipients of the Concordia Singing Society Foundation and Uwe K. Faulhaber Endowed Undergraduate Scholarships for 2003-2004.
The department has awarded over $9,000 for singing scholarships to nine students who will study in Germany for the summer or entire year: Lindsay Jewell of Sterling Heights, Jeffrey Krueger of Macomb, Luba Nevill of Bloomfield Hills, Daniel Osborne of Eastpointe, Corrina Peet of Ferndale, Frank Pepp of Livonia, Francine Salonen of Windsor, Ontario, Bethany Schultz of New Hudson and Therese Walkowski of Dearborn.
The scholarships, for study in Germany, were established by Kurt Hartlieb and the Concordia Singing Society Foundation to promote study in Germany.
In addition, the recipients of the Uwe K. Faulhaber Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship have been awarded $10,200. The funds will go to eight undergraduate students, majoring or minoring in German, in recognition of their academic achievement: Stacey DePauw of Grosse Pointe, Joseph Fischer of Royal Oak, Alaina Koerber of Grosse Pointe Woods, Luba Neville of Bloomfield Hills, Daniel Osborne of Eastpointe, Corrina Peet of Ferndale, Jesse Schmitt of Livonia, and Jeffrey Krueger of Macomb.
The Uwe K. Faulhaber Endowed Scholarship was endowed by Ann Kirk Warren and the Faulhaber family in honor and memory of the late Uwe K. Faulhaber, associate professor of German at Wayne State University. Professor Faulhaber was well known for his excellence in teaching as well as dedicated work with students.
