Wayne State University has recently been awarded a five-year, $1.9 million grant from the United States Department of Education to launch an Upward Bound Program.
The purpose of the Veteran's Educational Opportunity Program (VEOP) is to prepare low income, veterans of all ages and all branches of the service to pursue a college education. VEOP provides instruction in Mathematics, English, Composition, Computers and Foreign Languages. In addition the program provides: tutorial programs, academic, personal and financial aid counseling; and assistance preparing for college entrance examinations. The goal of VEOP is to increase veteran's enrollment rates in, and graduation from, colleges and universities.
Wayne's Academic College Enrichment Services (ACCESS) department will administer the Veteran's Educational Opportunity Program. The ACCESS department consists of seven programs that promote educational opportunity and the academic development of approximately 6,000 disadvantaged youths and adults who have the skills and motivation to succeed in higher education.
If you would like more information about VEOP or ACCESS, please contact Paul Rease, program coordinator, (313) 577-9710.
