Former U.S. Congressman David Bonior to examine North American Parliamentary Union

David Bonior, former U.S. Congressman and Democratic Whip, will examine the North American Parliamentary Union (NAPU) during a public forum on Monday, June 2, 7 p.m., at Bernath Auditorium located in the David Adamany Undergraduate Library.

Bonior, who recently joined Wayne State University's College of Urban, Labor and Metropolitan Affairs (CULMA) as a university professor of labor studies, will outline the NAPU program in a presentation titled "NAPU and You: The North American Parliamentary Union - What it is and why we need it."

Characterized as a relative of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Bonior says that NAPU "is a democratic structure which will enfranchise citizens, farmers, laborers, small business people and environmentalists in the NAFTA countries as well as Central America." NAFTA is the constitution of the North American Common Market "recognizing only one form of citizenship - that of multinational corporations," Bonior says.

The event, sponsored by CULMA, is free and open to the general public.

Wayne State University is a premier institution of higher education offering more than 350 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges to more than 31,000 students in metropolitan Detroit.
