Conference on the role of women in American Jewish religious life

The Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies at Wayne State University will host its biannual conference on The Changing Role of Women in American Jewish Religious Life. The conference will feature a keynote address May 4, followed by a daylong symposium on May 5.

Sunday, May 4 (7:30 p.m.)

Keynote lecture:
Professor Riv-Ellen Prell (American Studies, University of Minnesota), "American Jewish Women: A Social and Cultural Vanguard." The Pearl A. and George M. Zeltzer Annual Lecture on Women and Judaism. Free and open to the public. Congregation Shaarey Zedek-B'nai Israel Center, 4200 Walnut Lake Road, West Bloomfield.
Monday, May 5

Morning session:
"Women as Religious Leaders and Interpreters"
· Luncheon session:
"Public and Private Roles in the Major Denominations"

· Afternoon session:
"Women's Rituals and Ceremonies"

McGregor Memorial Conference Center, 495 Ferry Mall, Wayne State. Co-sponsored with Congregation Shaarey Zedek, The Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and the Women's Studies and Religious Studies Programs at Wayne State University.
