Hilberry Theatre opens Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard

The Hilberry Theatre on the campus of Wayne State University will conclude the 40th Anniversary season with a production of Anton Checkhov's masterpiece The Cherry Orchard directed by Dr. James Thomas. The Cherry Orchard tells the story of Madame Ranevsky and her family's struggle to maintain the mortgage on their prestigious cherry orchard in the volatile social environment of late nineteenth century Russia.

In October, The Hilberry Theatre opened their 40th Anniversary Season with Neil Simon's The Good Doctor, based on a collection of short stories by Chekhov. Through presenting the works of Russia's greatest playwright in various forms, The Hilberry Company is asserting their dedication to providing the Detroit theatre community with the best in classical theatre.

The Hilberry Theatre is located on the corner of Cass and Hancock in Detroit. Performances of The Cherry Orchard are 8 p.m. Friday: April 11, 25, May 9, 16; 8 p.m. Saturday: April 12, 26, May 10, 17; 8 p.m. Thursday: April 17, May 1, 15; 2 p.m. Saturday: May 10, 17; 2 p.m. Wednesday: April 30, 10 a.m. Tuesday: April 15. Ticket prices range from $12 - $20, with student rush tickets available the day of the performance at a 50% discount.
