LA Woodwind artist Terry Harrington returns to Detroit to perform with Wayne State's Jazz Band

DETROIT, MI - Wayne State University Department of Music proudly presents woodwind artist Terry Harrington as part of their 2003 Professional Artists Concert and Lecture Series on Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m. Terry will be performing with the WSU Jazz Lab Band I under the direction of Christopher Collins. The concert is being held in the Schaver Music Recital Hall, located in the Old Main Building at 480 W. Hancock. The concert is free and open to the public. Since moving from Detroit in 1969, Terry Harrington has resided in Los Angeles, California where he has compiled an extensive list of credits as a studio musician. While living in Detroit, he was a staff musician at WJR (CBS), recording for Motown Records, doing commercials and conducting the Roostertail Orchestra behind many of America's greatest entertainers. Terry was nominated three consecutive years for the "Most Valuable" all-around woodwind doubler by his peers in the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, playing all the woodwinds except bassoon. The "art of jazz," being Terry's primary motivation in choosing music as a career, has led him to recently publish a highly acclaimed book on Advanced Jazz Improvisation and Polytonality called "The Way I See It".

Terry has worked on television shows including Steve Allen, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, The Simpson's (Lisa's baritone sax), Bette Midler, Arsenio Hall, Merv Griffin, and Moonlighting. He has often been a featured saxophonist and actor on the long running hit show Days of Our Lives. His Motion Picture credits include I Love Trouble, The Big Chill, A Star is Born, At Long Last Love, For Pete's Sake, Gator, Love Potion #9, Young Frankenstein, Love At First Bite, The Mambo Kings, National Lampoon's Vacation, Popeye, Mrs. Doubtfire, Cannonball Run, and The Tuxedo. Terry Harrington has worked and recorded with many of the great bands, notable players and singers including Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Neal Hefti, Herbie Hancock, Ray Brown, Henry Mancini, Ouincy Jones, Doc Severinson, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, and more. His credits also include countless record dates in the "pop" field.
