"Humor and Aging" is the theme for this fourth annual conference, which is sponsored by the WSU Institute of Gerontology and its Elder Advisors to Research.
"Laughter," says conference organizer Jennifer Mendez, " is a means to reduce stress and create rapport in our lives. Our speakers and participants will give personal accounts of how humor and laughter enriches lives."
The keynote presentation The Healing Power of Laughter and Tears in Aging Gracefully will be presented by Rev. John Naus, S.J., Associate Professor, Philosophy of Humor, Marquette University, Wisconsin. A professional clown in his leisure hours Fr. Naus has preformed for national organizations and local non-profit agencies. He has used his craft to relieve pain, see the funny side of difficulties and teach others not to lose perspective or positive attitudes.
Concurrent workshops will feature:
- The Healing touch of laughter
- Constructive Fundraising Projects
- Utilizing clowning skills for better communication
- Inter-generational opportunities
