WSU Business Student Mary Bloomfield, of Warren, to receive the Crain's Detroit Business Newsmaker Scholarship

Mary Bloomfield and Linda Zaddach, assistant dean of student affairs, are available for interviews.

DETROIT - For the third consecutive year, a Wayne State University School of Business Administration student has been named the Crain's Detroit Business Newsmaker Scholarship winner. Mary Bloomfield, 20, a senior who lives in Warren, Mich., will receive the scholarship at the Crain's Detroit Business Newsmaker of the Year luncheon on Feb. 19 at Cobo Center. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to one business student enrolled at a Southeast Michigan university or college, who has demonstrated hard work, community involvement and a need for financial assistance.

A graduate of Centerline's St. Clement Catholic High School and a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society, Bloomfield has a 3.98 grade point average and plans to graduate this December with a bachelor's degree in corporate finance. Following graduation, she plans to work in the automotive industry. She has had several auto-related internships at local companies, including Delphi Corp., Lear Corp. and Lamb Technicon. Bloomfield hopes to get an internship this spring at General Motors Corp. or Delphi, but is currently unemployed to devote more time to school and her family.

Prior to Bloomfield, Wayne State students Jennifer Powell, a marketing major, and Amanda Ward, an accounting major, won the Newsmaker scholarship in 2001 and 2002, respectively. Governor Jennifer Granholm will be honored as the 2003 Crain's Detroit Business Newsmaker of the Year at next week's luncheon.
