DETROIT, MI - The Wayne State University Department of Music continues its 2003 Professional Artists Concert and Lectures Series with a Big Band Drum Clinic hosted by drummer Bob Harsen. The clinic is being held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2003 for WSU percussion students and community musicians. The afternoon's activities will be held in room 2414 of the Old Main Building, located at 4841 Cass Ave. and Warren. The WSU Department of Music presents many professional artists and scholars throughout the year to expose students to a diverse artistic and academic experience. National and international musicians, scholars and educators perform, present workshops, master classes and lectures on Wayne State's campus. The department is proud to present this series at no charge, benefiting WSU music students as well as students and musicians of all ages within the community.
Bob Harsen, a resident of Macomb Township, is a spectacular studio and live drummer. He has performed and toured with some of the most respected musicians on the contemporary music scene, including Bette Midler, Peabo Bryson, Killmanjaro, Melissa Manchester, Randy Brecker and Frank Gambale. Harsen is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and taught percussion there from 1986-88. He has also taught percussion at M.I.T. in Hollywood, California, as well as many drum and electronic percussion classes across the country. Bob performs regularly at clinics nationally and internationally, including NAMM, the Frankfurt Musikmesse and the Montreal Drum Fest 2001. Bob's performance at the 2001 Montreal Drum Fest was profiled in Modern Drummer.
Wayne State University Department of Music is celebrating 84 years of artistic and academic excellence. The Department's faculty includes renowned jazz artists, composers, scholars, educators and members of the internationally acclaimed Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
