Kim Dunleavy, a resident of Warren, Mich. and an assistant professor of physical therapy in Wayne State University's Applebaum College, has been named to the Board of Directors of Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO), a national organization that works to improve global health through education.
Dunleavy, a native of South Africa, was educated at South Africa's University of Witwatersrand and the University of Capetown. She has served the HVO previously as chairman of the Physical Therapy Overseas Steering Committee. In that position, she performed needs assessments, designed instructional programs, delivered theoretical and clinical training and provided services for programs in Suriname, South Africa and Vietnam.
Dunleavy specializes in physical therapy treatment for back pain and injuries that commonly trouble performing artists. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Wayne State.
Health Volunteers Overseas was founded in 1986 and has engaged some 3,800 health professionals to work in the least developed nations of the world. It has 1,900 members, 375 annual volunteers and 50 active training sites.
