Wayne State University's Center for Peace and Conflict Studies and the Committee for Peace and Justice in the Middle East will co-sponsor two expert speakers on the political and scientific issues surrounding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The event will be held Jan. 29, at 12:15 pm in the Bernath Auditorium of the David Adamany Undergraduate Library.
In the immediate aftermath of the Jan. 27 report by the UN weapons inspectors and the continuing preparation for war on Iraq by the Bush Administration, this educational forum is a timely and critical event open to the general public.
Professor Susan Wright from the University of Michigan will speak on "Iraq, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and the Rush to Preemptive War." Wright was a Senior Research Fellow at the UN Institute for Disarmament Research in Geneva. She is the author of several books, including: "Preventing a Biological Arms Race" (MIT Press) and "Biological Warfare and Disarmament: New Problems/New Perspectives" (Rowman & Littlefield).
Brad van Guilder will speak on "Depleted Uranium - Then and Now." He has a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Michigan. After teaching at a number of universities, he became a state organizer for Peace Action of Michigan and traveled to Iraq.
