DETROIT, MI - Detroit Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster, Emmanuelle Boisvert, will be visiting Wayne State's campus on Monday, February 3, 2003 to hold a string master class for WSU music students and community musicians. The master class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Schaver Music Recital Hall, located in the Old Main Building at 4841 Cass Ave. and Hancock. The master class is free and open to the public. The Wayne State Department of Music is honored to have Emmanuelle on campus this upcoming February. Emmanuelle is no stranger, however, to Wayne State. Along with her busy DSO performance schedule and solo appearances, she is also a member of the Department of Music's Adjunct Faculty. On February 3, the department's string students, along with area high school students and community musicians, will be given a rare opportunity to work first-hand with one of today's most versatile musicians. The students will have an opportunity to receive one-on-one instruction from Emmanuelle on chamber, solo and orchestral playing.
In 1988, Emmanuelle Boisvert won the post as Detroit Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster. At just twenty-five years old, she was the first woman to win this prestigious post in the United States. Her solo appearances and her collaborations in chamber music have also earned her widespread attention and critical acclaim. Boisvert began her studies at the Conservatoire de Musique de Quebec at the young age of three. She graduated from Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with Ivan Galamian and David Cerone. Following graduation, Emmanuelle played for the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and the Marlboro Music Festival. Emmanuelle currently performs with the St. Clair Trio.
