Governor appoints Driker to Wayne State University Board of Governors

Governor John Engler today appointed Eugene Driker to the Wayne State University Board of Governors.

"In filling this appointment, I have selected a candidate who has demonstrated commitment, good judgment and leadership in the community and at Wayne State and has the skills to exercise positive leadership," said Governor Engler.

Driker, of Detroit, is one of the founders and a senior member at the law firm of Barris, Sott, Denn & Driker, P.L.L.C. A graduate of Central High School in Detroit, Driker earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Wayne State University. In 1961, he graduated at the top of his class from Wayne State's Law School and went on to become the first Wayne student to be accepted in the U.S. Attorney General's program for honor law graduates in Washington, D.C.

Driker and his wife are active in cultural and charitable activities in Detroit and in the Jewish community. A member of the Wayne State University Foundation Board of Directors, he has also served as president of the Law Alumni Association and as chair of the Anthony Wayne Society. He also chaired the Law School's successful capital campaign that raised $19.2 million.

He is appointed for a term beginning Dec. 18, 2002 and expiring Dec. 31, 2006, replacing John F. Kelly, of Grosse Pointe Woods, who resigned.
