Carol Channing to receive Second Annual Apple Award

Festivities include gala benefit for WSU, meeting with WSU students, news conference for area media WHO & Actor Carol Channing will be in Detroit to receive the second annual Sarah < WHAT: Applebaum Nederlander Award for Excellence in Theatre from The Nederlander Company, LLC and Wayne State University. Channing will receive the Apple Award at a gala benefit & performance of Some Like It Hot for Wayne State University. Profits from the benefit will help support a visiting artist fund for WSU's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. As part of the "Apple Award" festivities, Channing will share her experiences with students of WSU's Department of Theatre. Channing will also host a news conference for the media. Best known for her signature portrayal of Dolly Gallagher Levi in Hello, Dolly! which made its world premiere at the Fisher Theatre in 1963 - Channing's many honors include a Tony Award or nomination for every Broadway show in which she has appeared. She also has received an Emmy Award and four additional Emmy nominations, an Oscar nomination, and a Golden Globe Award.
