About 40 students in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades from at St. Clair County Math and Science Center, will embark on Wayne State's campus Saturday, Nov. 23 for first hand experience with college-level science. A variety of professors and instructors in Wayne State's College of Science will work with the students throughout the day on a list of activities that include:
- Early Universe/Elementary Particle Presentation, by Physics and Astronomy Professor Claude Pruneau.
- A Particle Detector Project with Professor Pruneau.
- Physics demonstrations by Professor Steve Takach.
- Presentations in the department of biological sciences involving: Siamese Fighting Fish, Sea Urchin Fertilization and Sodium Alginate Pudding.
- Planetarium Presentation: Winter Night Sky and Stellar Evolution.
The students will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions to satisfy their scientific curiosity. The field trip to Wayne will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
