Detroit area health and religious organizations partner for community forum

Faith and community action combine in a joint effort between Greater Grace Temple (GGT), the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University's Urban Health Program in the College of Urban, Labor and Metropolitan Affairs, to provide inspiration and support for breast cancer survivors.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer mortality among African- American women in the United States. Over 100 cancer survivors from metropolitan Detroit are expected to attend the second annual "Overcomer's Victory Celebration" scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25, 6 p.m. at Greater Grace Temple, located at 23500 W. Seven Mile Rd., in Detroit. The event is sponsored by GGT's Cancer Support Ministry. The service will feature testimonials from cancer survivors and music from GGT's choir.

A community forum titled, "Assessing the Needs of Breast Cancer Survivors," will be held Oct. 26, 9 a.m. -1 p.m. at GGT church. The Karmanos Cancer Institute, Wayne State University's Urban Health Program and GGT are sponsoring this community wide event. Cancer information and resource directories will be distributed.
