The new Pharmacy and Health Sciences Building includes:
  • Total cost: $64 million, the State of Michigan contributed $48 million and Eugene Applebaum, founder of Arbor Drugs donated $5 million in 1998
  • Six stories with 270,000 square-feet
  • 18% increase in classrooms and 16% in classroom seating
  • Distance Learning Facilities with four smart classrooms containing Web and laptop capabilities in the first 50 seats
  • 14 discussion rooms with patient exam/ tele-video conference rooms
  • Physical therapy underwater weighing lab to determine body volume using water displacement and a neuro and daily living lab containing remote cameras and VCR's for student practice and observation.
  • Patient Simulator Suite- Four room suites with human-reaction simulated emergency rooms containing trauma-training modules. They also contain critical care units that support operating room functions, operation rooms with obstetrics training modules, pediatrics rooms and three technological debriefing rooms.
  • Pharmacy Practice Pharmaco-economics Lab to study the cost effectiveness of pharmacy
  • Annotation software for professor/ student communication via the web
Wayne State University's Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers 22 degree and certificate programs. More than 700 students now attend the college, which was founded as the Pharmacy College in 1924and expanded to include other degree programs 50 years later.
