DETROIT - October 7, 2002, The Southeast Michigan Jazz Association (SEMJA) is presenting legendary WDET music host Ed Love with an award recognizing him for his Outstanding Contribution to Jazz and the Arts. A special ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, October 13, 2002 from 2 to 5pm at Baker's Keyboard Lounge (Livernois at 8 Mile) in Detroit.
"I'm extremely proud to accept this award from SEMJA," said Ed Love. "Throughout my broadcasting career, it has been my pleasure to bring the world of jazz to the listening audience."
Love has been playing jazz on WDET 101.9FM for almost twenty years and has been broadcasting jazz in Detroit for more than forty years. The Ed Love Program can be heard on WDET 101.9FM Monday through Friday from 7 to 10pm.
In addition to his long-running jazz program, Love hosted a nationally syndicated program from WDET during the '80s and '90s called, "The Evolution of Jazz" which was heard on 125 stations nationwide. His deep knowledge and love of jazz has earned him two Spirit of Detroit awards and recognition by two Wayne County Executives, the Michigan House of Representatives, the Michigan Senate, the Congressional Black Caucus and the National Broadcast Awards among others. Love was also the senior program consultant for the 2000 Ford-Detroit International Jazz Festival and assisted in programming the 2001 and 2002 festivals.
The award ceremony honoring Love at Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit on October 13, 2002 from 2 to 5pm is open to the public. The Dobbins-Chandler Quintet will provide music for the event.
