DETROIT, MI (October 1, 2002) - Wayne State University Department of Music is proud to present a lecture with alumnus Stephen Millen, Vice President of Operations for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, on Friday, October 4, 2002.Millen's lecture on music management is part of the Department's 2002 Professional Artists Concert and Lecture Series. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra welcomed Stephen Millen as Vice President of Operations/General Manager at the beginning of the 2000-01 season. Millen came to the DSO from the Phoenix Symphony where he served as General Manager. Mr. Millen has worked with symphonies including the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra from 1996-97 and as a fellow with the Houston Symphony and Grand Rapids Symphony. During the 1991-92 season, Millen became the DSO's first Orchestra Fellow as a clarinetist. He graduated Magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance and music education from Wayne State University.
Mr. Millen's responsibilities at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra include planning and directing day-to-day operations, such as management of the Symphony's personnel department and library. He also supervises the scheduling and budgeting of all concerts while ensuring the overall quality of productions. Millen oversees the operation of domestic and international tours, the Symphony's metropolitan Detroit and Michigan performances, as well as radio and television projects. Stephen Millen currently resides in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.
