Detroit, MI Wayne State University Department of Music is proud to present music educator Anthony Palmer on Friday, September 20, 2002 as part of their2002-03 Professional Artists Concert and Lecture Series. Palmer will be giving his lecture "A Working Philosophy of Music and Music Teaching" at 11:45 AM in the Schaver Music Recital Hall located in the Old Main Building, 4841 Cass Ave. at Hancock. Anthony Palmer is currently an Adjunct Professor of Music Education at the Boston University School of Music, after retiring from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1998. He received his Bachelor of Arts in vocal and choral music education and a Master of Arts in composition from California State University. Palmer received his Doctorate from the University of California and is the first doctoral graduate to bridge both music education and ethnomusicology.
Palmer's 1975 dissertation, "World Musics in Elementary and Secondary Music Education: A Critical Analysis", has been a base paper in the field of music education for over two decades. Anthony has published many papers in professional music journals and his latest paper is a chapter in World Musics and Music Education, a Music Educators National Conference publication. Palmer has also published twenty-five choral compositions.
Anthony Palmer gives many workshops on choral and cross-cultural subjects at local, state, national and international conferences. Palmer is primarily active in the Music Educators National Conference and he is also the founding member of the newly formed International Society of Philosophy in Music Education.
