Detroit, MI - Sept. 4, 2002 - Campus-adr.org is a new web site with over400 pages of content that offers free tools and tips for resolving conflicts and building conflict resolution systems. Designed for colleges and universities, faculty, staff and students can access the site to learn how to prevent disagreements from turning into time-consuming and troubling conflicts.
Bill Warters, a Wayne State University faculty member, serves as the project's director and developed Campus-adr.org. The project received seed funds from the Hewlett Foundation-funded Conflict Resolution Information Source, followed by a major 3-year grant from the federal Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE).
Warters notes, "The timing of these grants was just right. Interest in developing campus conflict resolution systems has continued to expand. This is coupled with growing higher education access to sophisticated online technologies. The end result is robust program development materials available in a variety of forms, whenever and wherever you need them."
Campus-adr.org has useful information for everybody. Faculty will find mediation training role-plays, an online syllabi collection and the Conflict Management in Higher Education Report. Staff and administrators will find a policy archive, a Meta Search tool and an evaluation kit for campus mediation programs. Students will find advice for handling roommate conflicts, full-text articles and academic and career information.
The website also has job postings, discussion boards, training materials and much, much more. Conflict is widespread in higher education and has affected many of us. We know that conflict handled well can provide opportunities for learning and change. However, poorly handled conflict is costly in terms of money, time and interpersonal relations. While campus conflict resolution efforts, such as mediation, are growing in popularity, they are still only available on 15% of campuses nationwide. A new website, Campus-adr.org, has been established to support the expanded use of conflict management strategies in higher education.
Campus-adr.org has the best tools for working with and learning from conflicts at colleges and universities. Visit the website the Conflict Management. For more information, call (313) 577-4343 or email info@campus-adr.org.
