Wayne State University Pharamacy professor receives statewide honor

DETROIT - (April 2,2002)- Jesse Vivian, Pharmacy Professor at the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Wayne State University (WSU), recently received the 2002 Executive Board Medal Award from the Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA). The award is given annually to an individual who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the MPA.

Vivian, a professor at WSU for the past five years, teaches graduate and undergraduate students in the areas of law, ethics, professional responsibility and healthcare policy.

He has served MPA as general counsel for 14 years, representing MPA in corporate, finance, contract negotiations, patent and trademark matters, legislative and political matters. He has also served MPA as associate editor of the Pharmacy Law Update Service for the past six years, along with being a contributing editor of the Michigan Pharmacist for the past 12 years. He recently authored the book, Michigan Pharmacy Law: A Guide to Statutes and Resolutions.

Vivian has also received the Fellow of the Michigan Pharmacists Association (FMPA) designation in 1993 and the MPA Pharmacist of the Year Award in 1992.

Vivian received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in 1975; he obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School in 1983.

The MPA, serving 3,500 pharmacy professionals, strives to be a leader in professional and scientific advancement by following its mission of encouraging and supporting its members as the professionals responsible for the delivery of patient-oriented pharmaceutical care.

Wayne State University's Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will move to its new 270,000 square-foot education and research complex during the fall term in 2002. The new facility is located at John R Street and Mack Avenue. The College will offer 15-degree programs. More than 900 students now attend the college, which was founded as the Pharmacy College in 1924 and expanded to include other degree programs 50 years later.
