The two-day conference, which runs from 2:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on May 3 and 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on May 4, will feature guest speakers, breakout sessions and a reception.
Featured speakers will include former NFL player Ron Simpkins; Diane Loosbrock, formerly affiliated with the XFL football league; sports broadcaster and University of Michigan football play-by-play announcer, Jim Brandstatter; Charles Turner, Mid-Night Basketball and former Harlem Globetrotters player; LaVerne Henderson, director of event operations, Phillips Center, Atlanta, GA.
Participants from the Detroit Pistons, Reggie McKenzie Foundations, Detroit Tigers and other organizations are also scheduled.
The three-fold purpose of the Sports Administration and Youth Sports Conference is to give its students and physical education related majors an opportunity to obtain information regarding careers in sports and youth sport activities; to offer young adults the opportunity to find out about local Youth Sports Programs and the different careers associated within them and to address the importance of volunteerism in youth sports.
Reservations are required and may be confirmed by calling (313) 577-5945. The registration fee is $25.00 and group discounts are available. Included in the registration fee are refreshments and a complimentary t-shirt for all conference participants.
