The Wayne State University Departments of English and Theatre are pleased to announce the second annual Louise Heck-Rabi Scholarship Award Competition in Dramatic Writing.
The competition is supported by an endowment from the estate of Louise Heck-Rabi. An active member and founder of the Michigan Poets and Playwrights Society, Heck-Rabi graduated from Wayne State University in 1976 with a Ph.D. in English. Among her writings were Women Filmmakers; A Critical Reception and Rock the World, a one-act comedy which was performed Off Off Broadway in 1973.Heck-Rabi was also a librarian and an assistant professor at Wayne State.
The competition is limited to Wayne State University, full-time, graduate and undergraduate students majoring in or otherwise demonstrating strong interest in English or Theatre. Competitors must be enrolled for at least one credit in English or Theatre during the academic year in which they submit their work for competition.
An application for the competition must be submitted along with scripts for stage or screen to Dr. Phoebe Mainster, English Department, Wayne State University, 51 W. Warren Ave., Detroit, MI 48202. To get the application contact Dr. Mainster at 313-577-8621. For consideration, scripts must be submitted by Wednesday, May 1, 2002. Judging will take place over the summer. The pieces will receive a staged reading and workshop in the fall with a full performance given to three of the winning works the following spring.
