African American Composers Concert on Martin Luther King Jr. holiday at Wayne State University

On Monday, Jan. 21, Delta Omicron Professional Music Fraternity and Wayne State University's Music Department will present the eighth annual African American Composers Concert at 2 p.m. in tbe Community Arts Auditorium at Wayne State University. Admission is complimentary, and there is free parking in Parking Structure #5 on Anthony Wayne Drive.

The concert is held in the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and celebrates the culture of African Americans with music and dance. Perfomances will be given by the WSU Dance Company, the Dennis and April Tini Jazz Duo, Annie Walker, Troy Rucker, and the Michael Moore Percussion Ensemble. The music is a variety of styles composed by Afiican Americans.

The Delta Theta Chapter of Delta Omicron Professional Music Fraternity has helped organize the concert for eight years. Starting as a student recital, the concert has grown over the years to feature performers such as renowned jazz artist Marcus Belgrave and George Shirley, the renowned tenor of the Metropolitan Opera as well as a WSU alumnus and a National Patron of Delta Omicron.

Located in the heart of the Detroit Cultural Center, the Wayne State University Department of Music is celebrating 83 years of excellence in music. The Department's faculty includes renowned Jazz artists, composers, and members of the internationally acclaimed Detroit Symphony Orchestra. WSU alumni have gone on to careers in distinguished orchestras, ensembles and as soloists and music educators the world over.
