The Wayne State debaters continued to have one of their most impressive seasons in many years. Last weekend the debaters traveled to Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA to compete against more than 100 teams from throughout the eastern and southeastern United States. Wayne qualified teams into the elimination rounds in all three divisions: Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Novice. In the Varsity Division, Wayne State won 1se place by defeating Catholic University in the final round. Senior Stephanie Gerali (Denver, Colorado) and Junior Michael Weitz (Killeen, Texas) defeated Dartmouth in the octo-finals, George Washington in the quarterfinals and Wake Forest in the semi finals on their way to their final round victory. Weitz was the 4eh highest individual speaker in the Tournament and Gerali was the 6eh highest individual speaker in the Tournament.
Also qualifying for the elimination rounds in the Varsity Division were sophomore David-Michael Boykin and freshman Matt Farmer. They defeated the University of South Carolina in their octo-final round before losing to the University of Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore Carlina Mayberry and freshman Don Ritchie advanced to the octo-finals in the Junior Varsity Division before being defeated by John Carroll University.
In the Novice Division, sophomore Amanda Brazel and junior Andrea Mousseau advanced to the quarterfinals by beating University of Pittsburg in the double octo-finals and the University of West Virginia in the octo-finals. They lost their quarterfinal round to Mary Washington University.
