Detroit, MI: Professor Emeritus Harold Arnoldi, Director of Bands for over33 years passed on Tuesday, November 20, 2001. Professor Arnoldi's contributions to the department have been infinite, and his death will be a tremendous loss to the Wayne State University Department of Music. The department's students, faculty and staff mourn the passing of this dedicated professor and enthusiast of music.
Professor Arnoldi taught for many years at the elementary and secondary levels for the Detroit Public Schools, and has served as an adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor throughout the United States. As a professor for the Wayne State University Department of Music, Professor Arnoldi produced and directed "The Band Played On," a series of award-winning radio broadcasts which received the George Washington Honor Medal from the Freedom Foundation. In 1985-86, Harold Arnoldi was recognized "as one of ten directors who have made outstanding contributions with a lasting influence upon music education in the United States of America."--The School Musician Magazine Under the direction of Professor Arnoldi, the WSU Symphonic Band performed worldwide, including a concert tour of the People's Republic of China in 1982 and a concert tour of West Germany in 1985.
According to Dennis J. Tini, Professor and Chair of the Wayne State University Department of Music, "Professor Emeritus Harold Arnoldi was an outstanding member of our department for over 33 years. He was known nationally and internationally as director of our band program. Professor Arnoldi served the University as a marvelous alumnus and representative through his extensive activities within the community." Tini also added, "Our department, students and alumni will miss our dear colleague's incredible dedication and personal support throughout the years."
Visitation for Professor Emeritus Harold Arnoldi will be held at Peter's Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods on Thursday, Nov. 22 from 5-9 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 23 from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Harper Woods.
