WSU medical students join forces with Children's Hospital of Michigan to promote urban child health

Wayne State University medical students will join forces with health-care professionals throughout southeastern Michigan at next week’s annual HealthFOCUS Conference. HealthFOCUS, an acronym for Health for our Children in Urban Settings, represents a unique collaboration of medical students, physicians, residents and administrative staff from WSU, Children’s Hospital and the Detroit Medical Center. The organization is dedicated to addressing community issues that impede the delivery of proper health care to urban children.

Conference presentations provide an interactive environment for health-care professionals, students and community representatives to share resources and generate solutions. The goal is to help current and future caregivers recognize the unique needs of the urban child and to help those in health care acquire the resources and understanding necessary to help those children lead healthier lives.

HealthFOCUS is Saturday, Oct. 6, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Children's Hospital of Michigan. Registration for the event is $20 for physicians and $10 for non-physicians. The registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and snacks.
