The American Political Science Association (APSA) recently honored Prof.Jered B. Carr with the Leonard D. White Award for the best dissertation in the field of public administration. As part of its 2001 honors, APSA offered19 awards at a ceremony on August 30 as part of the its 97th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA.
Honorees were recognized in four categories of awards including: eight dissertation, five book, one article and five career achievement awards. Carr was recognized for his dissertation titled, "The Political Economy of Local Government Boundary Change: State Laws, Local Actors and Collective Action."
He joined the Wayne State University department of political science faculty as an assistant professor in August 2001 following a joint appointment in the Master of Public Administration and Master of Environmental Studies programs at the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC.
Prior to his appointment at the College of Charleston, he was a research associate with the Center for International Public Management in Florida. He holds bachelors and masters degrees from Florida Atlantic
University and a doctor of philosophy from the Reubin O'D. Askew School of Public Administration and Policy from Florida State University (FSU).
Carr is widely published in journals, book chapters, technical reports, articles and referenced conference proceedings. He also received the Collins Fellow, of the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy at FSU and was a grant award recipient at the FSU Dissertation Research Grant.
