Women run 10 of 14 Wayne State schools and colleges

The Women of Wayne Alumni Association will recognize nine distinguished women who are deans at Wayne State University during a special reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 10 in Alumni House, 441 Ferry Mall, Detroit. The program begins at 4:30 p.m.

Nine women run 10 of the 14 schools and colleges at WSU. They are Joan Mahoney, Law School; Linda Moore, College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts (FPCA); Hilary Horn Ratner, Graduate School; Barbara Redman, College of Nursing; Beverly Schmoll, College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions; Phyllis Vroom, School of Social Work; Paula Wood, College of Education and the College of Lifelong Learning; Sandra Yee, University Libraries; and Alma Young, College of Urban, Labor and Metropolitan Affairs.

The deans are being honored for their leadership and outstanding contributions to the university and will be presented with special awards.

Two female faculty members will receive Women of Wayne Research Grants of$500 each during the reception as well.

Marta Dmytrenko-Ahrabian, lecturer and associate director of the English Language Institute (ELS) in the College of Liberal Arts, will be honored for her project "Content-based advanced ELS listening comprehension for university lectures."

Marilyn Zimmerman, associate professor of art and art history in fine arts, will receive a grant for her proposal "Women on Woodward Avenue: Woodward Avenue re-photographic project."

This is the 15th year the awards have been presented.

The reception is free but reservations are required.
