NEWS ALERT: WSU to graduate 1ST class of 'mini medical school' Thursday

Wayne State University’s School of Medicine will graduate its first Mini Medical School class Thursday, May 31 at about 7:15 p.m. in Scott Hall, 540 E. Canfield.

About 90 people participated in a six-week, free course sponsored by Pfizer to learn about the body and how to take care of it. Members of the community learned about genes, hypertension, aging, alternative medicine and diabetes.

Before graduating tomorrow night, one more class will be held, this one on fat. At 6 p.m., Jodi An Micallef, MS, RD, CDE, will discuss the different types of fat found in foods, the roles they play in the body and their impact on health.

With more than 1,000 medical students, WSU is among the nation’s largest medical schools. Together with the Detroit Medical Center, the school is a leader in patient care and medical research in a number of areas including cancer, genetics, pediatrics and the neurosciences.
