Four leaders in business who have made significant contributions to their companies and communities will receive Wayne State University Corporate Leadership Awards Thursday, June 21, at the Hilberry Theatre. A community reception begins at 5:15 p.m., followed by the awards presentation at 6 p.m.
This is the 18th time the awards have been presented. This year's recipients are:
Kim Schroeder, library and information science '92; founder of Archive Impact, Inc., in Detroit. Schroeder will receive the Emerging Corporate Leader Award, presented to an alum who is an entrepreneur or following a successful second career path and who shows great potential for future leadership in a chosen field. Schroeder lives in Detroit.
Edward Kerfoot, College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions '64, School of Medicine '70, '74; director of Toxicology and Product Regulations at BASF Corp. in Wyandotte. Kerfoot will receive the Distinguished Corporate Leader Award for his work as a mentor and for providing a lifetime of service to his industry and Wayne State. Kerfoot lives in Grosse Pointe Park.
Habib Fakhouri, College of Liberal Arts '68. Fakhouri, honorary consul general of Jordan; will receive the Twenty-first Century Award.
This award is for alumni who have shown personal and professional leadership in one of these areas: global leadership, technological innovation, urban involvement or a commitment to diversity. Fakhouri lives in Troy.
Stanford and Iris Ovshinsky, founders of Energy Conversions Devices, Inc., in Troy. The Ovshinskys will receive the Corporate Citizenship Award for their spirit of volunteerism, service and commitment to improving the quality of life in the community. They are residents of Bloomfield Hills.
"Wayne State University, under the leadership of President Irvin D. Reid, is continuing to find new ways to collaborate with corporations," says Gary Rounding, senior vice president for development and alumni relations. "These awards recognize these relationships and honor the individuals who partner with us to advance the mission the university."
