WDET - 101.9 FM named "Best Detroit Radio Station" by Detroit Free Press

WDET Host Martin Bandyke also earns

DETROIT - May 4, 2001 - WDET Detroit Public Radio received two honors this week from The Detroit Free Press. The Detroit daily newspaper named WDET "Best Detroit Radio Station" and WDET's weekday afternoon music host Martin Bandyke "Best Detroit Radio Personality" in its "Best of Detroit 2001" guide.

The Free Press described WDET as a "wildly diverse music and information paradise" and "the perfect aural antidote to the suffocating formula schlock of most commercial radio stations." Having won many honors over the years for its music and news, WDET continues to deliver quality arts and information programming to southeast Michigan, and around the world via its web cast at www.wdetfm.org.

"These honors are especially gratifying considering the eclectic nature of our full-service format of music and news," said Judy Adams, WDET Program Director.

Host Martin Bandyke, who has been at WDET for 18 years and who also is the station's music director, was named "Best Detroit Radio Personality." The Free Press noted, "Martin Bandyke delivers the most engagingly eclectic listening experience on Detroit radio. On any given day, that might be anything from Johnny Cash to Thelonius Monk and the Rolling Stones to Radio Head." The Martin Bandyke Program airs weekdays from noon to 3 p.m.
