Wayne State University senior Carol Moran of Harrison Township will receive one of two prestigious Howard A. Donnelly Awards during WSU commencement ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in Cobo Arena. The award is presented annually to a woman and to a man in the spring graduating class who have distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions to the university in the areas of leadership, service and student activities, consistent with high scholarship.
Moran, who will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, has served as both president and vice president of the College of Nursing Council. She also represents the college on the WSU University Council and is the student nursing representative to the WSU Alumni Association. She is a member of the Michigan Student Nurses Association and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
A member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, she also received a WSU Board of Governors Scholarship, a Metro Health Foundation Scholarship, and the Heart of Giving Scholarship, among others. She is a community service volunteer with her church, participated in the College of Nursing Therapy Workshop and was a student volunteer who assisted at previous WSU commencement ceremonies.
The Harrison Township resident, who will address the audience at the ceremonies, is among 3,200 students in the spring 2001 graduating class.
A special guest at the ceremonies will be financier and philanthropist Max Fisher, who w~ll receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the university. Fisher is being honored for his longstanding commitment to the economic and cultural vitality of southeastern Michigan and for exemplary work on behalf of charitable causes.
