DETROIT - April 9, 2001 - The master control room at WDET, Detroit Public Radio was filled with applause on April 6 at 1:07 p.m. when the tally board indicated the station reached its pledge drive goal of $575,000. The amount was raised in seven days and seven hours.
A variety of popular premiums were responsible for fueling the pledge drive. As a way of thanking the listeners for their pledges, WDET's premiums included "An Evening with David Sedaris," the Ken Burns' JAZZ CD box set, a WDET Day Sponsorship, a 3-volume set of Detroit pictorial history books, the exclusive collection of live performances from the WDET studios, 'DET LIVE! Volume 2, and a coffee mug featuring the cover art of 'DET LIVE! Volume 2.
"This was an incredibly successful pledge drive," said Caryn Mathes, WDET General Manager. "I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who worked tirelessly through this drive, as well as to our talented on-air hosts and staff whose work was instrumental in the success of this pledge drive. This insures that our quality arts and information programming will continue and we look forward to further serving the community."
Listeners who were unable to donate during the on-air pledge drive can show their support for WDET at anytime by calling 1-800-959-WDET or make a pledge on the station's website at www.wdetfm.org. Donor premiums, including 'DET LIVE! Volume 2, will continue to be available for listeners who pledge by April 30, 2001.
