The Wayne State University School of Social Work Alumni Association will hold its annual alumni awards luncheon Friday, Feb. 2 from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at WSU's McGregor Memorial Conference Center.
Guest speaker Guadalupe Lara, a manager at Children's Hospital of Michigan, will talk about the challenges facing social workers in the new millennium. She is involved with conflict resolution training for children and families.
Brett Morales, of Detroit, coordinator of prevention services with the Detroit-Wayne County Community Health Agency, will receive the Alumna of the Year Award. John J. Villa, of Beverly Hills, a retiree who is active in several community service organizations, will be honored as Citizen of the Year.
In addition to the health agency, Morales has worked with Latino family Services, the Association of Municipal Professional Women and the Detroit Hispanic Lions Club.
Villa has volunteered with the Mexican Center of Michigan and the American Red Cross. He also is a volunteer probation officer and a tutor-mentor at several schools.
