Wayne State has experts on politics of Middle East

The Middle East is a tinderbox that could ignite at any time. The U.S. military has become a prime target for terrorists, as evidenced by the attack on the USS Cole and new threats uncovered by intelligence sources. New developments are occurring almost daily in the region, and there is concern that escalating conflict between Israel and the Palestinians could draw in other countries, including the major powers.

What's next in that volatile part of the world? Wayne State University has experts in international relations who can help interpret political aspects of the hostility in the region, including its impact on the United States. Among professors who can provide insights are . . .

Frederic Pearson, director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies and of the Detroit Council for World Affairs (313-577-3453)

Melvin Small, professor of history (313-577-6138)

Richard Chasdi, adjunct assistant professor in the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies (313-577-3453)
